A Busy Year!

The Rockdale County Bar Association has had a busy year both with benefits to our members as well as outreach to the community.

For member benefits, we have had 4 bar luncheons in which our members were able to obtain CLE credits as well as meet and comingle with each other. At the February 4th bar meeting, we had John Monroe visit and give a CLE presentation on the Second Amendment and the revamping of Georgia’s gun laws. In March, we had our own Thua Barlay inform us on the new death tax and trust laws and how they affect our practice.  In June, Georgia State Law Professor Paul Milich presented a CLE course on HB 24 which addresses Georgia’s new rules of evidence. Finally, and at our last bar meeting in August, our own Clerk of Superior Court, Ruth Wilson, and Cole Thaler with Georgia Legal Services met with us to discuss Pro Se Filers in Rockdale County, the resources currently available for those filers as well as what resources might be coming in the future.

As to our community outreach, we have made generous donations to Rockdale CASA the Court Appointed Special Advocates who help, on a volunteer basis, to protect our youth here in Rockdale, the new Georgia Revolution soccer team, whose addition will hopefully expand resources available to RYSA; as well as the John Strauss memorial plaque.

Finally, thank you to all those who donated to Judge Nation’s portrait and frame. We have reached our goal and could not have accomplished that without a great Bar.  Thank you also to Wales Barksdale who hosted the April get together at his farm.  A great time was had by all!
